janakजनक उवाच :
कथं ज्ञानंवाप्नोति कथं मुक्तिर्भविष्यति |
वैराग्यं च कथं प्राप्त्मेतद् ब्रुहि मम् प्रभो || – अष्टावक्र गीता
Janak said
Meaning : Teach me this , O prabhu ! How can knowledge be acquired ? How can liberation come ?
How renunciation be achieved ?

अष्टावक्र उवाच :
मुक्तिमिच्छसि चेत्तात् विषयान् विशवत्त्यज् |
क्षमार्जवदयातोषसत्यं पीयूषवद्भज् || – अष्टावक्र गीता
Ashtavakra replied :
Meaning : If you aspire for liberation, my child, reject the objects of the senses as poison and seek forgiveness, straight forwardness, kindness , contentment and truth as nectar .

हातुमिच्छति संसारं रागी दु:खजिहासया |
वीतरागो हि निर्दु:खसतस्मिन्नपि न खिद्यति || – अष्टावक्र गीता

One who is attached to the world, wants to renounce it in order to avoid its miseries ; but one without attachment is free from sorrow and does not feel miserable even in the world.

न पृथ्वी न जलं नाग्निर्न वायुर्द्यौर्न वा भवान् |
एषां साक्षिणमात्मानं चिद्रुपं विद्धि मुक्तये || – अष्टावक्र गीता

Meaning : You are neither earth nor water nor fire nor air nor space . In order to attain liberation know the Self as the witness of all these – the embodiment of Pure Consciousness itself.

अहं कर्तेत्यहंमानमहाकृष्णा हि दन्शितः |
नाहं कर्तेति विश्वासामृतं पीत्वा सुखी भव || – अष्टावक्र गीता

You have been bitten by the great black serpent of egoism “I am the doer”, please drink the nectar of faith “I am not the doer” and be happy.
