How are e-Pharmacies beating the fake drugs issue in India?

September 26, 2018

According to World Health Organization, one out of ten medicines in India are fake. The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) has stated that counterfeit drugs constitute 25% of domestic medicines market in India, in the research paper – Fake and Counterfeit Drugs in India –Booming Biz. The counterfeit medicine industry in India is estimated to be worth Rs 4,000 Crore. These alarming facts indicate that the probability of consuming fake medicine is much higher than we want to believe. And it is high time that we, as aware consumers, learn of ways and means to arrest this.
The pharmaceutical industry, has also been trying to tackle this issue and the emergence of e-pharmacies have made this easier. But how have they done this? One e-pharmacy – Medlife, has made it a point to raise awareness about fake drugs and also guarantee the quality of the drugs sold online. From stringent verification process for the distributors to strict checks on the prescriptions, there are various simple initiatives that they take to battle the issue of counterfeit drugs.

Sourcing
In times when there are many chemists in one area, we cannot always be sure about the sourcing of drugs in our local medical stores. Raids by the crime branch have led to the seizure of more than 90,000 counterfeit capsules and tablets in Delhi recently.

However, e-pharmacies like Medlife make it a point to only source their drugs from authorized distributors, ensuring that the medicines are 100% authentic and reliable.

Safe Transportation
There are various drugs that are sensitive to light, temperature, etc and need to be transported in a protected environment so as to ensure they are safe. The key to it is to have a fool-proof end-to-end delivery process, which is covered by e-pharmacies. The 5-step Cold-Chain process followed by Medlife ensures that medicines like Insulin are refrigerated properly till it reaches the purchaser.

Trust
Trust is a very important thing while making medicinal purchases. While the awareness about the fake drugs in circulation may leave us skeptical, e-pharmacies make it a point to have a transaction that is based on trust. But the step-wise process, and multi-prescription checks not only ensure that the drugs are safe for consumption, but also that the need for these drugs is real. Medlife carries out 22 prescription checks, by specialist doctors, qualified pharmacists only to ensure safety of the consumers. These are just some steps that make e-pharma companies like Medlife safer and trust-worthy as compared to the local mom and pop medical stores. E-pharmacies also follow a systematic process- where drugs are transported from distributors to warehouses and are delivered at our doorstep from there. In a time where millions of lives worldwide are lost because of consumption of fake drugs, this process is a great way to ensure that our medicines are safe for consumption.

“Indians are worthy of this only otherwise who else in this world will leave their thousand of years old full proof science which is ‘Ayurvedha‘ and will accept so called modern unverified technique which changes on daily basis ! Big pharma giants are killing indians and earning profit and G.O.I. is helpless !!”- Editor, Vedic Upasna Peeth
