Desire, the root cause of all distress

सर्व संसार दोषाणां तृष्णैका दीर्घदु:खदा |
अन्तः पुरस्थ मपि य योजयत्यतिसंकटे || – श्री वशिष्ठदर्शनं (१-१७-३२)
Meaning : Of all the ills of worldly life, it is desire along that gives long lasting grief. That (desire ) poses difficulties to the one who stays in the inner apartments of the palace.
